LED lighting system

In 2016, Kyläkauppa started an extensive lighting change project which aimed to improve Kyläkauppa’s energy efficiency, decrease its carbon footprint, increase customer comfort and occupational safety, and promote domestic production. The change was implemented in all of Kyläkauppa’s total 92,000m² area. Greenled Oy, which delivered the solution, is an expert on comprehensive lighting solutions which emphasises energy efficiency and the sustainable development of its production chain and technology.

With the new LED lighting system, Kyläkauppa saves over 60% on energy used for lighting. According to CEO Vesa Keskinen, Kyläkauppa aimed for a well-lit overall experience, taking into account sustainable development and the wellbeing of customers and staff alike. “We can only reach sustainable efficiency through the right actions. We value both the employer and customer experience, and for us, the starting point of business is to produce wellbeing by affecting people and the environment. Preferring domestic production is also of utmost importance to us. Additionally, the short repayment time of only 4.5 years makes this a profitable investment for us,” Keskinen says.

The Finnish Greenled produces its lighting fixtures at its own production facility in Kempele. In its lighting production, Greenled prefers environmentally friendly materials, and solution plans are based on maximizing energy savings. The utilization of the lighting system is optimized through smart controls. According to Pertti Tahvanainen, the CEO of Greenled, Kyläkauppa will reach large-scale ecological effects with this lighting change. “With this new lighting solution, Kyläkauppa can save energy annually for an equivalent of the yearly consumption of 130 Finnish houses. Also, during the life-span of the lighting system, carbon dioxide emissions are decreased by an amount the absorption of which would require the planting of over 215,000 trees. This comprehensive solution acquired by Kyläkauppa thus promotes sustainable development on a very concrete level.”
